Only seriously blogging for about a week is not much but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the point where a lot of people will quit when they realize how hard it is and that it will take time. I have tried blogging quite a few times in the past but I never wanted to take the plunge of actually getting a domain or signing up for anything. I had a bit of a rough start with Wix. I signed up with them and was really excited and bought a domain, and then realized later that they had horrible options for working with Pinterest. I canceled that and switched over to Bluehost and have been in love since then. Simple process and WordPress was the best option for me as I had Blogger posts I wanted to carry over. If you are looking for an easy hosting company with so many options with WordPress I suggest Bluehost .
Making money does not come fast or easy
I have been making sure to include affiliate links and sharing the shit out of those posts everywhere I can and you know how much I made so far this week? 36 cents. And that wasn’t even from affiliate links. That was from Adsense. You need to realize that it will take time and that the money machine that you see all over pinterest will not happen right away. But try to stick with it.
Need to work that hustle
This is the one part that might be the hardest for me at this point. I feel like I am constantly on Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook working that hustle. Sharing here. Retweeting there. Trying to get followers by following others. Try to share your posts anywhere you can without being obnoxious. For that to happen, you need to join lots of groups and follow lots of people in hopes that they will share your stuff by sharing their stuff. At the end of the day, you want to stay at the top of whatever page you sharing to.
Facebook Groups are BOMB!
There are lots of Facebook groups that are specifically for bloggers that want the exact same thing as you. EXPOSURE! It is basically tit for tat. You share their stuff and they will share your stuff. You have social media threads to boost up your followers or impressions. And you have blog threads to share actual posts that users will share on Twitter or post to Pinterest. Great group of gals in those groups they are!
The constant sharing can be a bit overwhelming
Like I said above, you gotta work that hustle and share your shit. I have discovered the extent that those pinterest posts are referring to. I can understand why users sign up for scheduling pin programs and I think if I didn’t have the time that I would be bit more discouraged.
Making Pinterest specific pictures really help
Making your pictures cropped to fit properly on Pinterest can really make your posts stand out and look great. I found that PicMonkey has a crop specifically for a Pinterest pin, which is awesome for the lazy B in me.
Pinterest seems to be the hardest to get in
They all say to join groups so you have multiple boards to post to unashamed, but trying to join those groups is hard. I have probably messaged about 10 different group admins with only an answer from a couple. I did end up creating my own board and invited some of the Pinners that I knew. Try to join as many groups as possible because those are all potential repins for the same post.
I feel like I have nothing to contribute sometimes
I think most would refer to this as writers block. I am just a normal mom to an only child and I don’t have all of these amazing tips and tricks that I see so many other moms write about. I am trying to push past that I really find what I can contribute to this community.
The last thing I learned is that I need to get my ass in gear regarding content. I thought having about 20 posts would be a great starting point when going live, but boy there is so much more opportunity when you have more posts to work with.
What are some of the things you learned when just starting blogging or some tips you have for us newbies?
Karen
