I have an almost 4 year old, a senior dog, and will be getting a new puppy next weekend. Let’s just say the idea of grocery shopping no longer feels like something that I look forward to. I used to look forward to grocery shopping as my time by myself. Now I have to race through the grocery store and thanks to my horrible short term memory, I forget lots of items. Nobody should be sweating by the time they are done grocery shopping from racing down the aisles. Nobody!
When we get our new puppy, we will not be able to leave him by himself for a few weeks until we get down house training. I decided to start looking for grocery stores that would deliver but unfortunately there were none around my area. The joys of living outside of the cities I guess. I thought I would check out Walmart to see if they had anything to offer. I grew up with the biggest Walmart in the state so I have been a bit spoiled when it comes to them. I saw that they have this process of being able to create your grocery list and add items to it up until a certain point. Then somebody shops for you and you just go pick up your groceries! Seemed pretty convenient for my upcoming circumstances.
My first experience with this process was a few days ago, and WOW! I will probably start doing this even after my puppy gets house trained and we can leave him by himself. This was so convenient and such a lovely experience, I am amazed that this is not done by more people. I am sure the experience varies from store to store, but my store is huge with a wide variety of products and a lovely staff.
I spent the whole week slowly adding products to my grocery list on my laptop. This was before I knew there an app. Yes, there is an app that you can also add products to on the fly. My only gripe is that the search when looking for products leaves much to be desired. I would put in the actual brand and would come up with nothing, but if I just scrolled through all of the ice cream that brand would appear.
Once I got my list all done, I went through the check out process, selected which items I would allow a substitution from and selected my reservation pickup time. This was done in 1 hour increments. Once you reserve your time and “check out”, you will get an email with more information. It will tell you that you can add products to your list up until 1 AM of the night before you are going to pickup. So I was picking up on Friday afternoon between 3 and 4 so I was able to add items up until 1 AM Friday morning. This worked out well when my husband would add items to the list randomly throughout the night during his snack fests.
On Friday, I got an email around 2:30 stating that my order was ready to pick up. It states in the email that if you have the app, you don’t have to call them when you get there. You just need to check in and they will come right out. I left work right at 3 and go to Walmart around 3:20. Once I pulled into the spot, I checked in. I was told afterwards that I could technically check in about 15 minutes out and their GPS would track where I was and when I pulled in. That is pretty amazing.
They bring out all of your groceries on a big cart and you just have to sign for it and she goes over any substitutions that they needed to do. She asked if this was my first time and that I get a goodie bag, which I thought was a nice gesture. Then they load up your trunk. I felt awkward having somebody else load my groceries so I helped. But that is certainly not required or expected, if you are not in the mood to socialize. A few hours later I got my e-receipt and it was done.
Once I got home, I made sure to check all of my products. My main concern with having somebody else shop for me was that they were not going to give a crap about the quality of the produce. This was not the case. All of my product was beautiful and nothing was out of place.
I LOVE this service and if you have a Walmart that does this, I would totally give it a try. You can bring your brood all with you and there is no issues with munchkins throwing stuff in the cart, tantrums over cookies, and in my case, coming home to pee and poop all over the house.
If this is your first time, and you are wanting to give this a try, I do have a referral link that will give you $10 off your first order.
